Why is Kasauli famous?

Kasauli is a small hill station in the Solan district of Himachal Pradesh. It is a cantonment area. This cantonment was established by the British government in 1842 as a colonial hill station. It is 77 km from the state capital Shimla, 65 km from Chandigarh and about 287 KM from Delhi. This place is also described in the Indian epic Ramayana. According to mythology, the Hindu god Hanuman stepped into this place while returning from Sanjeevani hill.  The place is named after a stream of the mountain that flows between Jabali and Kasauli and is called Kausalya. Kasauli became an important part of the Gorkha kingdom in the 19th century. The place was later converted into a major battalion city by the British. It is the same place where many Indians including locals joined the British Army.
