Cooch Behar district is a district in the state of West Bengal, India. The district is named after its headquarters city of Cooch Behar. Cooch Behar district is under Jalpaiguri division. Cooch Behar is a very important district of West Bengal in terms of tourism located in the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas.  During the British Raj, the city of Cooch Behar was a princely seat of Koch Behar, which was ruled by the Koch dynasty. Under an agreement between the kings of Cooch Behar and the Government of India at the end of British rule, Maharaja Jagdeependra Narayan transferred the full power, jurisdiction and power of the state to the Government of India with effect from 12 September 1949.  Cooch Behar Palace Cooch Behar became part of the state of West Bengal on 19 January 1950, with its headquarters at Cooch Behar city.
