Murshidabad district is a district in the state of West Bengal, India. It is situated on the banks of the river Ganges, and this district is known for its very fertile soil. The district headquarter is located in Baharampur city. The district got its present name in the early eighteenth century. The name of the district is derived from its founder Murshid Quli Khan. Before the arrival of the British, the city of Murshidabad used to be the capital of Bengal. Hazarduari Area of Murshidabad district The area of district is spread over an area of 5,341 km.
