Pauri Garhwal is a district in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. The district headquarters is located in Pauri city. It comes under the Garhwal division of Uttarakhand. Pauri Garhwal district is known for the snowy peaks of the Himalayas, natural valleys, rivers and its dense forests.
Area
The district is located in Pauri Garhwal, the Gangetic plain and the northern Himalayas. Pauri Garhwal district is spread over an area of 5,230 square kilometers. The district shares its borders with Pauri Garhwal Haridwar, Dehradun, Tehri Garhwal, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Almora, Nainital and Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh. The district is divided into nine tehsils i.e. Pauri, Lansdowne, Kotdwar, Thalisain, Dhumakot, Srinagar, Satpuli, Chakisain and Chaubattakhal.

It comes under the Garhwal Lok Sabha constituency. The assembly constituencies of the district are Yamkeshwar, Pauri, Srinagar, Chautakhal, Lansdowne and Kotdwar.
Population
As per the 2011 census, Pauri Garhwal district had a population of 6, 87,271. Pauri Garhwal district has a sex ratio of 1103 females for every 1000 males. The major first language of the district is Garhwali, Nepali and Kumaoni are also spoken by some.
Economy
The economy of the district depended mainly on agriculture. Rice, wheat, barley, maize, mandua, lentils and oilseeds are cultivated here. Some large and small industrial units have been set up around Kotdwar.

The literacy rate of the district is 82.02%. Pauri, Kotdwar, Lansdowne and Srinagar are major centers of education in the district. The most common mode of transport in the district is by bus or taxi. The nearest airport to the district is Jolly Grant Airport, near the state capital Dehradun, about 155 km from Pauri Sahar and 120 km from Kotdwar Sahar.
Kotdwar railway station is the main railway station in the district. Pauri is well connected via road to Dehradun, Rishikesh, Haridwar, Kotdwar and other cities in the region.
