Rishikesh​ is a religious town in the Dehradun​ district of the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is also known as Dev Bhoomi. It is located in the foothills of the Himalayas. It is known as the "Gateway to the Garhwal Himalaya" and the "Yoga Capital". 

It is located about 25 km north of the holy city of Haridwar and 43 km from the state capital Dehradun. It is known as a pilgrim town and is considered one of the holiest places in Hinduism. There are many yoga centers that attract tourists from all over the world.

It is also called the gateway to the dhams like Kedarnath, Badrinath, Yamunotri and Gangotri. Rishikesh is situated on the banks of the holy Ganges River. Every year, a large number of tourists from all over the country come to see the religious places of this place and take a dip in the Ganges River. 

The fame of the ancient temples and ashrams here extends far and wide. According to the Hindu epic, Lord Rama did penance here after killing Ravana. This is the place where Lord Lakshman crossed the river Ganga with the help of a jute bridge. Therefore, this bridge is called Laxman Jhula. Later, in 1924, it was converted into an iron dangling bridge.

The period between February to October is the best time for trekking in this region. The weather remains pleasant for the most part of the year in Rishikesh. However, tourists are advised not to come here in the month of May as the temperature here is very high at this time.

The nearest airport of Rishikesh is the Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, which is located at a distance of 18 km from here. Rishikesh has its own railway station which is well connected to cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Dehradun.
