Amritsar - The Pilgrimage Center for Sikhs


Amritsar is one of the biggest cities in Punjab. It is a historical city and one of the most popular visiting places for the Sikhs. The city is known for its different temples (Gurudwaras) and hallowed places generally committed to the Sikh society. The city is additionally well known for its Punjabi food. The city was once known by the names Ramdaspur and Ambersar before the fourth Guru of the Sikh religion. Guru Ram Das renamed the city to 'Amritsar'. 

Golden  Temple

Also called Harmandir Sahib, the Golden Temple is one of the most popular places and tourist destinations in Punjab and the most visiting place for the Sikh religion. Golden Temple also offers World's Biggest Community Kitchen which serves over 1 Lakhs devotee every day.



Jallianwala Bagh 

Jallianwala Bagh is a public place/garden of national importance. The 6.5-acre public garden is located close to the Golden temple.



Akal Takht 


The Akal Takht is among the 5 Takhts of the Sikh religion and is situated in the Golden Temple complex. The Akal Takht symbolizes the apportioning of Justice and transient action of the Sikh religion.



Wagah Border

 The name Wagah alludes to a town in Pakistan, through which the questionable Radcliffe line which segregates the fringe of India from Pakistan was drawn amid the allotment at the season of Indian autonomy in 1947.


You can also visit Gobindgarh Fort, Partition Museum, Saint Lal Devi Temple, Durgiana Mandir, Bada Hanuman mandir, Summer Palace of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, Ram Tirth, Ghanta Ghar during your trip.


What to buy?

During your visit to Amritsar, you can buy khandas, Karas, swords, daggers, Punjabi Juttis, Warian, Phulkaari, etc. from local markets near the Golden temple. There are so many shopping malls in the city where you can for shopping like D Mart Amritsar, VR Ambarsar, The Celebration Mall, Omaxe Novelty Mall, Big Bazar Amritsar, Vishal Mega mart Amritsar and so on.

Best time to visit Amritsar

Though you can visit any time Amritsar the best time to visit Amritsar is between November and March. During summer it is very hot. Between November and March, it has a pleasant temperature and ideal for sightseeing and visiting the nearby places.  

How to reach Amritsar

Amritsar is well-connected by transport modes like via Road/Bus/Air. There are numbers of the train which has direct connectivity to Amritsar Railway Station. Pathankot is about 2.5 hours away and about 100km away, Jalandhar is about 80km from here, Kapurthala is about 65km from Amritsar,  Every day there is direct transports connectivity to or from cities like New Delhi, Jammu, Katra, Chandigarh, Dharamsala, Shimla, Patna and so on. It is easily accessible by the Delhi Amritsar Katra expressway. You can contact the Amritsar Bus Stand office for more details about buses. If you are in Chandigarh and want to travel to Amritsar then you can also hire a taxi from Black Taxi India, because it offers Chandigarh to Amritsar taxi at very low rates which is starting from just Rs 9/Km.
