Kinnaur district is one of the twelve districts in the state of Himachal Pradesh, India. The district is divided into three administrative areas - Pooh, Kalpa, and Nichar. The headquarters of Kinnaur district is located at Reckong Pio city. From here one can see Kinnaur Kailash, the abode of Lord Shiva.
Kinnaur is surrounded by Tibet in the east. It is a very beautiful district, about 235 km from the capital Shimla, which has three high mountain ranges i.e. Zanskar, Greater Himalayas and Dhauladhar. Sutlej, Spiti, Bspa are their tributaries. This district was formerly known as Chini Tehsil of Mahasu District. On 1 May 1960, it came into existence as an independent district.
