Kullu district is a district in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. The headquarters of the district is located at Kullu city. The district is located in central Himachal and is famous for its tourist centers and Himalayan treks. Kullu district shares its borders with Lahaul Spiti, Kinnaur, Mandi, Kangra and Shimla districts. 

The district is known for some of its ancient settlements, traditional handlooms and apple cultivation. The main Kullu valley lies between the Pir Panjal Himalayas and the northern edge of the Dhauladhar region.


The Kullu Valley is the largest valley in the district, also known as the "Valley of the Gods". Kullu city is situated on the banks of river Beas. Kullu district is also known for The Great Himalayan National Park which is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites


Kullu district is spread over an area of ??5,503 km square. According to the 2011 census, the population of Kullu district was 4,37,474. Kullu has a sex ratio of 942 females for every 1000 males and a literacy rate of over 80%. There are 6 tehsils in the Kullu district: Kullu, Nirmand, Banjar, Manali, Bhuntar and Anani. Manali, Kullu, Banjar are the constituencies of Anni district.

How to Reach Kullu 

It is well connected to other parts of the country by roads and airways. Frequent buses are available to all major cities from the HRTC bus stand in Kullu and Manali. Taxis can also be availed from local taxi stands. The nearest airport is at Bhuntar, 10 km from Kullu and 50 km from Manali. Outstations taxi is also available for Kullu, for example, you can reach Kullu by hiring taxi from Chandigarh, Amritsar and Delhi.
