Ratnagiri District at a Glance
Ratnagiri is one of the famous districts of Konkan
Division in Maharashtra. It is known as the land of Vardamuni and Parashurama.
The district is also known for horticulture in Maharashtra, especially the
mango and cashew nuts here are famous all over the world. The district is
headquartered at Ratnagiri city. Ratnagiri is the birthplace of Lokmanya Tilak
as well as the workplace of Veer Savarkar. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar also hailed
from this district.

The district is spread over an area of

sq km. It shares its borders with the districts of the Arabian Sea, Sindhudurg,
Raigad, Satara, Sangli and Kolhapur. The district is divided into nine tehsils i.e., Ratnagiri, Rajapur, Lanja,
Sangameshwar,
Chiplun, Guhagar, Khed, Dapoli and Mandangarh. The district consists of 844
Gram panchayats and 1543 villages.

Sabha constituency. The district consists of five seats in Maharashtra
Legislative Assembly i.e. Rajapur, Ratnagiri, Guhagar, Chiplun and Dapoli.

per the 2011 census. Ratnagiri district has a sex ratio of 1123 females for
every 1000 males. Marathi is the first major language of the district.

crops are mango, coconut, jackfruit, betel nut, rice, ragi, etc.
