Shimla is a district in the state of Himachal Pradesh, India. It’s headquartered in Shimla city. Shimla is also the capital and largest city of Himachal Pradesh. In 1864, Shimla was declared the summer capital of British India. After independence, Shimla became the capital of Punjab and was later made the capital of Himachal Pradesh.



Shimla is also a large commercial, cultural and educational center of Himachal Pradesh. Shimla district shares its borders with Mandi, Kullu, Kinnaur, Sirmaur, and Uttarakhand. Shimla city is situated at an altitude of 7,467 feet above sea level. The area of ??the district is 5,131 km square.
