Chandigarh is a union territory of India which is the capital of Punjab as well as Haryana. Chandigarh has a culture that blends traditional Punjab as well as modernism. Chandigarh is a very beautiful city that looks like a dream in a hurry.

 

It is located in the foothills of the Shivalik ranges of the Himalayas in northwest India. There is an ancient temple dedicated to the Hindu goddess Chandi, after which the city is named. Due to urban design and construction, it is known as the first planned city of India all over the world. The weather here is favorable throughout the year due to its high altitude. The city is also known as “City Beautiful” due to its amazing beauty.

 

After the Indo-Pak partition, Punjab needed a new capital in place of Lahore. Then Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of independent India, decided to build a new and planned city. In the 1950s, a French architect and urban planner named Le Corbusier designed Chandigarh. On November 1, 1966, the city was declared a union territory and the capital of Punjab and Haryana.

 

 Tourist places in and around Chandigarh

One of the largest creations of Le Corbusier, The Open Hand is located in the capital complex of the city. The three complex buildings of the democratic system and the city insignia in the capital complex are very popular among the tourists visiting here. The rock garden here also attracts a large number of tourists Draws towards him. It is not only known for its art and culture, but also abroad. There are also many museums in Chandigarh. For example, the International Dolls Museum, Government Museum and Art Gallery.

 

The vast forest in the north of Chandigarh attracts wildlife lovers. The Kansal and Nepalese forests are lined with fauna and plants. But the most discussed in this area is the Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary. This sanctuary is a part of the Sukhna Lake Catchment and houses various species of mammals, birds and reptiles.

 

Another such attraction is Chhatbir Zoo which is located in Mohali. Rose Garden and Gurudwara Kuhni Sahib are also important among other tourist places of Chandigarh.

 

 How to reach

Chandigarh is easily accessible from all parts of the city by air, rail and road. The airport here is 8 km from the city. The railway station is in Sector 17. Bus services are also available from the Inter-State Bus Terminal located at Sector 17 and Sector 43.
