Purulia District

Purulia district is one of the twenty-three districts of the state of West Bengal in eastern India. The district was established on 1 November 1956. Purulia City is the administrative headquarters of the district. Raghunathpur-Adra, Jhalda, Anara and Balrampur are some other important towns of the district. Purulia is the westernmost district of West Bengal, which is also known for its tropical location, its shape which is like a funnel. 


It not only carries the tropical monsoon stream from the Gulf to subtropical parts of northwest India but also serves as a gateway between the developed industrial areas of West Bengal and the hinterland of Odisha, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. works. The district consists of four subdivisions which are further divided into Purulia, Hura, Balrampur, Arsha, Manbazar, Bandwan, Pancha, Barabazar, Jhalda, Joypur, Baghmundi, Raghunathpur, Para, Neturia, Santuri, Kashipur blocks.

Economy

The economy of Purulia district is mainly driven by industry, agriculture and tourism. Among these, the industrial sector is the backbone of the economy of the district.
