Why Malana?
Malana is an ancient village in the state of Himachal Pradesh. It is situated in the northeast of the Kullu valley, near the Parvati valley. This village is different from the rest of the world. Malana’s untold story is perhaps one of the best-kept secrets of the country, and that is why it draws the whole world towards itself. Situated on the banks of the fast-flowing Malana River at an altitude of 3029 meters above sea level, this village is one of the oldest democracies in the world, the village still manages its affairs on its own.

It offers a mesmerizing view of the Malana Devtibba and Chandrakhani peaks, located near the Kullu Valley. The lifestyle of the locals here is simple, as Malana is untouched by the glamor of urban life. The administration of the village is governed by 11 representatives of Jamula Rishi Devta, who is the main deity of the region. These representatives make decisions in the name of the deity and their decisions are not challenged.
Known for its serene environment and rich culture, Malana is very unique and has been a part of many documentaries including the globalization of a village in the Himalayas. The natives of the region religiously follow their customs and traditions, which is an important feature of the place. According to folk, the village of Malana was founded by soldiers of the army of Alexander the Three of Macedon.
