Why Jawalaji?
Jawalaji temple is the most famous temple in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh state. It is located in the lower Himalayas in the volcanic city of Kangra, about 55 km from Dharamshala. Here is the residence of Mata Jwala, who is a Hindu goddess. Jawalaji is also known as Jwala Devi and Jawalamukhi. Historically, Mother Sati’s tongue fell in a temple dedicated to Jawalaji.
In this temple, blessings of the Mata are in the form of light which is constantly burning. Near the Jawalamukhi temple is the temple of Baba Gora Nath. Which is known as Gorakh Dibbi. The primary construction of this temple was done by King Bhumi Chand. Later in 1835, Maharaja Ranjit Singh and Raja Sansarchand built this temple completely. Inside the temple, there are nine Jyotis of Mata, known as Mahakali, Annapurna, Chandi, Hinglaj, Vindhyavasani, Mahalakshmi, Saraswati, Ambika. Fairs are held here every year during the Navratri festival during March-April and September-October.
