Rohtak
Rohtak district is a district in the Indian state of Haryana. It is located in the south-east of Haryana and north-west of Delhi. Historically, the region was founded by a Rajput king named Raja Rohtash Singh Parmar. The region was named Rohtashgarh after him. But in time, its name was changed to Rohtak. The place is also mentioned in the Vedas and the great epic, the Mahabharata. It is believed that the region is as old as the Indus Valley Civilization. The Khokhar Jats, Khushana, Yadhya and Guptas ruled the region at different times. The administrative headquarters of the district is located in Rohtak City, which is 240 km from the state capital Chandigarh.

Geographically, the district has a total area of 1,745 sq. km. is. It ranks 12th in the state and 521st in India by area. It shares its borders with Jind, Sonipat, Jhajjar, Hisar, Sirsa and Bhiwani districts. District Rohtak is divided into 3 sub-districts, 5 towns and 143 villages. Rohtak, Maham, Kalanur and Sampla are the tehsils of the district.

Population
The total population of the district is 10,61,204 as per the 2011 census. The sex ratio in the district is 867 females per 1000 males. Hindi is the major language spoken in the district.
Economy
Economically, the district is dependent on its industries and agriculture. Many small and cottage industries are established in the district. The district also holds the record for the largest screw producer in the world. There are also several dairy and sugar mills in the district.
Education
The literacy rate of the district is 80.22%. The two recognized educational institutions in the district are the Indian Institute of Management and Maharishi Dayanand University. Rohtak are on National Highway No. 10 and provide excellent bus connections to all cities and towns in the neighboring states.
