Yamunanagar

Yamunanagar district is one of the 22 districts of Haryana state of India. Historically, Yamunanagar was part of Ambala. It is located south-east of the state capital Chandigarh. Earlier Yamunanagar city was called Jagadhri. This district came into existence on 1 November 1989. Today this district is developing very fast. Many multiplexes and brand stores have opened here. The administrative headquarters of the district is located at Yamunanagar, at a distance of 106 kilometers from the state capital, Chandigarh.

Area

Geographically, the total area of the district is 1,768 square km. Is spread around in On the basis of area, it is ranked 11th in the state and 518th in India. It shares its borders with Himachal Pradesh in the north, Uttar Pradesh in the east, Karnal district in the south, Kurukshetra district in the south-west and Ambala district in the west. The Yamuna River forms the district's eastern border with the states of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Administratively, the district is divided into 3 sub-districts, 12 towns and 636 villages.

According to 2011 census, the total population in the district is 12,14,205. Hindi is the official language of the district.



Economy

Economically this district is mainly dependent on agriculture. Yamunanagar city has many big industries related to plywood, paper, sugar and metal and utensils sector. Saraswati Sugar Mills, Asia's largest sugar mill is established in this district. Shri Gopal Paper Mill is another important mill here. The district also has India's largest railway carriage and wagon repair workshops. Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Station has been established here by Reliance Infrastructure. Jagadhri, which is a part of the district, is famous for its brass and stainless steel utensils. The city is also known for its cluster of plywood units and the finest timber of the country. The main crops of the district are sugarcane, wheat and rice.

Education

The literacy rate of the district is 77.99%. There are many educational institutions including schools and colleges in the district. One of the oldest engineering colleges in the district is Haryana Engineering College. It provides technical education using the most modern technologies. Mukand Lal Public School, Thapar International School, Sant Nischal Singh Public School, National Public School, New Happy Sr.sec.school, Mukand Lal National College, GURU NANAK KHALSA COLLEGE, Tilak Raj Chadha Institute of Management and Technology etc. are some of the famous schools of the district. There are educational institutions.

There are many famous historical and religious places to visit in the district. Such as Adibadri, ancient site of Sugh, Buddhist Stupa Chaneti, Ch. Devi Lal Herbal Nature Park, Rang Mahal, Harnol and Topra, Kalesar Wildlife Sanctuary, Kos Minar, Panchmukhi Hanuman Temple, etc.

What to do to reach Yamunanagar ?

The nearest airport to the district is Chandigarh International Airport at a distance of 106 kilometers from Yamunanagar city. Jagadhri Railway Station is along NH 73 and State Highway 6. Bus services to Karnal, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Chandigarh, Narayangarh and other nearby cities and towns are easily available.
