Bongaigaon district

Bongaigaon district is a district in the state of Assam with its administrative headquarters located in Bongaigaon town . The name of the district is derived from the name of an old village called Bongaigaon.  The most notable date in the history of Bongaigaon district is 29 September 1989 when Bongaigaon emerged as a separate district for the first time by incorporating some areas of Goalpara and Kokrajhar districts of Assam state. After some time in 1874 the British government created a new province named Assam Valley Province and then the Goalpara district area was taken back from Cooch Behar. They were also added to the Assam province which continues till date. Attractions Bongaigaon is rich in culture, spirituality and nature.
