Purba Bardhaman District
East Bardhaman district is a district of West Bengal, India. The district headquarters is located in Bardhaman city. The district was formed on 7th April 2017. At that time the erstwhile Bardhaman district was divided into two parts i.e. Purva Bardhaman and Paschim Bardhaman. With the division, the agricultural part of Bardhaman now comes under East Burdwan, while West Bardhaman is the industrial center. According to some historians, the district has been named after the 24th and last Jain Tirthankara Mahavir Vardhaman. Alternatively, Bardhaman means a prosperous and growing region. Area The area of the district is spread over 5432.69 square meters. The district comprises four subdivisions: namely, Kalna, Katwa, Bardhaman Sadar North, Bardhaman Sadar South.
