Karbi Anglong

Karbi Anglong district is a district in the state of Assam with its headquarter located in Diphu town. The name of the district is derived from two words namely Karbi and Anglong. Karbi is a very famous tribe which is commonly found in most of the areas of Assam state.  Deopani Durga temple On the other hand, Anglong is a Karbi word which means hills. Both the words Karbi Anglong together mean the hills of the Karbi people. Karbi Anglong came into existence as a completely separate district on the map of Assam on 14th October 1976. Langkovku waterfall Area Spread over 10,434 sq km, the district is bordered by Golaghat, Morigaon, Nagaon districts as well as Meghalaya and Nagaland. The district is divided into 3 sub-divisions namely Diphu, Bokajan and Hamren. Apart from this, the district consists of 7 towns and 2,921 villages. Golaghat District

On August 14, 1987, it was given the status of a full-fledged district of Assam. Earlier it was a subdivision of Sivasagar district. The name of the district is derived from two Assamese words, "Gola" meaning shop and "Ghat" meaning boat stop. There is an interesting story associated with the name of the place Golaghat, which originated from the shops established by Marwari traders in the mid-20th century on the banks of the Dhansir river near the present Golaghat town.  City Skyline Golaghat On the other hand, some inscriptions on the rocks of Nagajari Khanikar village of Sarupathar, remains of fortifications, ancient structures, temples, tanks etc. are still evidence of the glorious history of the 9th century kingdom in the Doyang-Dhansiri valley. In the 16th century the valley of Doyang-Dhansiri was under the rule of the Ahoms. Before the reign of the Ahoms, this part was occupied by the Kacharis, who were generally known as the Herombials.
