Hisar district is one of the 22 districts of Haryana state of India. The headquarters of the district is located in Hisar city. Hisar was founded by Firoz Shah Tughlaq. Then it was called Hisar-e-Firoza. The name of the place is believed to be derived from the Arabic word 'Hisar' meaning 'fort'. But as days passed, the word 'turquoise' was dropped from its original name.    Hisar Till 1966 it was the largest district of Haryana. It was divided twice. BSF battalion headquarters is also in the district. It also has the largest administrative and judiciary complex. The Indus Valley Civilization flourished here. It is also known as Steel City as it is home to the largest producer of steel named Jindal Stainless Steel Factories. It is situated at a distance of 251 mi from the state capital Chandigarh.   Area Geographically, the total area of the district is 3,983 km².
