Panchkula district is one of the 22 districts of the state of Haryana. Historically, the name Panchkula originated from the names of five irrigation canals or clans. The district headquarters is located in the city of Panchkula, which is 11 km from the state capital Chandigarh.  Nada Sahib Gurudawara Panchkula is a planned satellite city of Chandigarh Capital Region. Panchkula district was formed on 15 August 1995 as the 17th district of the Indian state of Haryana. This region has been associated with the Aryans, Pandavas, Kushans and Gupta dynasties. The prestigious Chandi Mandir cantonment headquarters of the Indian Western Command is also located in the city of Panchkula.
