Panchkula
Panchkula district is one of the 22 districts of the state of Haryana. Historically, the name Panchkula originated from the names of five irrigation canals or clans. The district headquarters is located in the city of Panchkula, which is 11 km from the state capital Chandigarh.

Panchkula is a planned satellite city of Chandigarh Capital Region. Panchkula district was formed on 15 August 1995 as the 17th district of the Indian state of Haryana. This region has been associated with the Aryans, Pandavas, Kushans and Gupta dynasties. The prestigious Chandi Mandir cantonment headquarters of the Indian Western Command is also located in the city of Panchkula.

Geographically, the district covers an area of 898 sq. km. The district is divided into 2 sub-districts, 5 towns and 219 villages. The district has five towns namely Panchkula, Barwala, Pinjore, Kalka and Raipur Rani. Morni, the only hill station of Haryana, is also in the same district. District Panchkula is situated in the north of the state of Haryana. District Panchkula shares its borders with Patiala district of Punjab, Chandigarh, Solan and Sirmaur districts of Himachal Pradesh and Ambala district.

As of 2011 census, the total population of the district is 5,61,2 The sex ratio in the district is 873 females for every 1000 males. Hindi is the first major language of the district.
Economy
Agriculture is the major source of income for the people of this region. The major crops of the region are sugarcane, paddy, maize, wheat, gram, barley and oilseeds. Supporting crops are chilli, pulses, fenugreek, onion and other winter vegetables. Other main occupations of the district are construction, trade and commerce, transportation, storage and communication.

The district has many famous historical and religious tourist spots. Mansa Devi Temple, Yadavinder Garden, Morni Hills, Nada Sahib, Cactus Garden, Kali Mata Temple, Shalimar, Bella Vista, Urban Estate, Panchkula Golf Course, Red Bishop Convention Centre, Nahan Kothi are the major attractions of the district. Mata Mansa Devi Temple is dedicated to Goddess Manasa. It is located in Bilaspur village near Mani Majra.
