Howrah district is a district in the state of West Bengal. Howrah district is one of the highly urbanized areas of West Bengal. It is also the second smallest district after Kolkata. It has a rich heritage of thousands of years in the form of the great Bengali kingdom of Bhursut. The district is named after its headquarters, Howrah city. It is a part of the area covered by the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority. Hooghly Bridge The district comes under the Presidency Division and ranks 9th in the state with respect to its size with an area of 1467 sq.km. The district has a large industrial population. The industrial heritage of the district is vibrant and it plays a vital role in the economy of both the state and the country as a whole.
