Howrah district is a district in the state of West Bengal. Howrah district is one of the highly urbanized areas of West Bengal. It is also the second smallest district after Kolkata. It has a rich heritage of thousands of years in the form of the great Bengali kingdom of Bhursut. The district is named after its headquarters, Howrah city. It is a part of the area covered by the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority.
