Sirsa is one of the 22 districts of the state of Haryana. It is one of the largest districts in the state of Haryana in terms of area. The district headquarters is located in the city of Sirsa, which is 246 km from the state capital Chandigarh. The history of Sirsa dates back to the Mahabharata period. It is believed that the name Sirsa is derived from Sairishka, its ancient Sanskrit name mentioned not only in the great epic Mahabharata but also in the Ashtadhyayika and Divyavadana. On September 1, 1975, the present Sirsa district was formed by merging Sirsa and Dabwali tehsils of the former Hisar district. Ottu Lake Area It ranks second in the state and 274th in India by area.
