Baksa district is a district of Assam state with its administrative headquarters located at Mushalpur city . The district was formed by combining Nalbari , Barpeta , Kamrup and small parts of Darrang district . Baksa was declared as a separate district on June 1, 2004.  There is a very popular belief among the people that originally the word 'Baksa' is pronounced as 'Bangsa' which means a farmhouse and a corridor because at that time Bhutanese kings and subjects used it for trade and access to the plains Were. While according to Bodo source the name of this place is derived from a type of rice grain which is known as "Bagsa" in this region. Area The geographical area of the district is 2,457 square km. It is bounded by Bhutan on the north, Udalguri district on the east, Barpeta, Nalbari and Kamrup districts on the south and Chirang district on the west. The district is divided into 6 revenue divisions, namely Baska, Baganpar, Barama, Jalah, Tamulpur and Gores
