Bilaspur is a district in the state of Himachal Pradesh, India. Its headquarters is located in Bilaspur city. The district is spread over an area of 1,167 km square. On 1 July 1954, the Bilaspur state was merged with Himachal Pradesh and became the Bilaspur district.
The city of Bilaspur was established in 1663. The historic city was submerged in 1954 to build Govind Sagar Dam.
As a result, the new Bilaspur city was established. Bilaspur district is located in the Shivalik range of the Himalayas. It is surrounded by hills on all sides. To the south and west, it is surrounded by Punjab.
The district is divided into 6 tehsils. Jundhuta, Ghumarwin, Bilaspur Sadar, Naina Devi, Bharari and Namhol are the tehsils of the district.
Population
According to the 2011 census the district has a total population of 3,82,056. As of 2011, it was the third least populous district in Himachal Pradesh after Lahul Spiti and Kinnaur. Bilaspur district has a sex ratio of 981 females for every 1000 males, and a literacy rate of 85%.
