Lahaul and Spiti district is one of the 12 districts in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It is made up of two separate districts of Lahaul and Spiti. The headquarters of the district is located at Keylong City. Keylong city has some tourist facilities including a circuit house, a PWD rest house, a military rest house, a tourist bungalow, and several small hotels. 


The district was formed in 1960. It is the fourth-least populous district in India. The district is connected to Manali via Rohtang Pass. It has two important protected areas, the Pin Valley National Park and the Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary.

The district had a population of 31,528 as of the 2011 census. Lahul and Spiti have a sex ratio of 916 females for every 1000 males, and a literacy rate of 77.24%. The language and culture of Lahaul and Spiti are almost equal. Typically, Lahaulis are Tibetan and Indo-Aryan.


Agriculture is the main source of livelihood in the district. Potato farming is common. Cabbage, potatoes, green peas, radishes, tomatoes, carrots, and all kinds of leafy vegetables are also grown here. Occupations include animal husbandry. The houses here are built in the style of Tibetan architecture.
