Solan District Information

Solan
district is one of the twelve districts of Himachal Pradesh state of India. Solan city is the district headquarters. Total area of the district is 1936 km2. The district came into existence on 1 September 1972. A new district was formed by merging Solan and Arki tehsils. The name of the district and the name of its headquarters comes from Mata Shoolini Devi. 




It is said that she saved Solan from destruction. The district has five assembly constituencies: Arki, Nalagarh, Doon, Solan and Kasauli. All these are part of Shimla Lok Sabha constituency.


Administration in Solan District

The district is divided into four sub-divisions: Solan, Nalagarh, Arki and Kandaghat. There are seven tehsils in the district, Solan, Kandaghat, Kasauli, Nalagarh, Arki, Baddi and Ramshahar. 




Population in Solan District 

According to the 2011 census, the district had a population of 5,80,320. Solan district has a sex ratio of 880 females for every 1000 males and a literacy rate of 85.02%. 




Economy of Solan District

Agriculture is a major feature of Solan district. Maize, wheat and barley are the main crops, onions, pulses and peas are also cultivated here. Mushroom farming is very popular in Solan, so people also call Solan city as "Mushroom City". . The Solan district has three main industrial centers: Parwanoo, Chambaghat and Baddi.

Maa Shoolini Devi, Badi Ki Dhar, Barog Railway Station, Kasauli, Chail, Solan Church, Jatoli Temple, Mohan Shakti National Heritage Park, Dolanji Bon Monestry, Pandava Cave Mountains, Jawahar Park, Dagshai Cantonment Board, Arki Fort, Nalagarh Fort is among the major attraction of the district.

The nearest airport to Solan is Chandigarh Airport, which is at a distance of 66 km from here. Solan is well connected to other major cities of the country via regular trains. By road, Solan is well connected to major cities of the country. You can also reach Solan by hiring a taxi from Chandigarh city, there are numerous taxi service providers that are offering Chandigarh to Solan taxi service.
