Paschim Medinipur District

Paschim Medinipur district is a district in the state of West Bengal, India. It was formed on 1 January 2002 after the bifurcation of Midnapore into Paschim Medinipur and Purba Medinipur. The district headquarters is located in Midnapore city. The district is named after a local goddess "Medinimata". Kharagpur city is the largest city in the district. Talking about villages, Paschim Medinipur district has the largest number of villages. That is, it is the district with the most villages.

The area of ​​the district is spread over 6,308 km. The district comprises three subdivisions namely: Kharagpur, Medinipur Sadar and Ghatal.
