Faridabad District

Faridabad district is one of the 22 districts of the Indian state of Haryana. The headquarters of the district is located in Faridabad city. The district is named after its headquarters, Faridabad city. Faridabad was founded in 1607 AD by Jahangir's treasurer Sheikh Farid with the aim of protecting the highway passing through the city. District Faridabad came on the map of Haryana on 15 August 1979 as the 12th district of the state. The new district was carved out of the erstwhile Gurgaon district. Faridabad is the most populous city in the Indian state of Haryana and is a part of the Delhi National Capital Region. Faridabad district is located in the southern part of Haryana state.

The area of the district is spread over 741 square kilometers. The district is divided into 3 sub-divisions namely Faridabad, Ballabhgarh and Badkhal, which is further divided into 150 villages. This district is about 25 kilometers from Delhi. The district shares its borders with Faridabad, Palwal district, Gurgaon district, Union Territory of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh.

This district consists of 6 assembly constituencies of Haryana state: Prithla, Faridabad NIT, Badkhal, Ballabhgarh, Faridabad and Tigaon. All 6 are part of Faridabad Lok Sabha constituency.


 

Population

 
According to 2011 census, Faridabad district has a population of 18,09,733. As of 2011, it was the second most populous district of Haryana after Gurugram district. Faridabad has a sex ratio of 873 females per 1000 males. Hindi is the first major language of the district.

Economy

 
It is the industrial center of Haryana and the country. Faridabad was earlier a major industrial city of Haryana and was a popular choice for setting up industries due to its location on the Delhi-Mathura road. The city is famous for henna production in the agricultural sector. There are about 15,000 small, medium and large industries operating in the district which provide direct and indirect employment to lakhs of people. Many international companies like Whirlpool, Goodyear, Larsen & Toubro, Asia Brown Boveri, GKN Invel, Woodward Governor, Castrol, Escorts, Eicher, Cutler Hammer, Hyderabad Asbestos, Newchem are setting up their plants in the district.

The literacy rate of the district is 83%. Carmel Convent School, Aravali International School, Ryan International School, DAV Public School, Manav Rachna University, National Institute of Animal Welfare, Lingaya University are some of the best educational institutions in the district.

Transportation

The nearest airport to the district is Indira Gandhi International Airport of Delhi. Regular buses run to Faridabad from other major cities of the country. The nearest bus stations are Faridabad and Ballabhgarh. Delhi-Mathura-Agra National Highway 44 passes through the center of the district. 

 


You can easily get regular trains to Faridabad from other major cities of the country. Faridabad Railway Station, Ballabhgarh Railway Station, Faridabad New Town Railway Station are the major railway stations in the district.
