Gurugram

Gurgaon is now known as Gurugram meaning "Guru's Village" as it is presented as the village of Guru Dronacharya. Later its name became Gurgaon. It is also believed that the village of Dronacharya, the guru of Kauravas and Pandavas, came under the area occupied by this present district. Gurgaon emerged as a separate district in the Haryana state map on August 15, 1979. The administrative headquarters of the district is located at Gurugram city which is located at a distance of 295 kilometers from the state capital Chandigarh.



Area

 
The total area of the district is spread over 1,258 square km. Based on this size it is ranked 19th in the state and 585th in India. District Gurugram shares its borders with Jhajjar, Faridabad, Palwal, Mewat, Rewari and the Union Territory of Delhi. The district is divided into 5 sub-districts, 9 towns and 242 villages. Gurugram, Sohna, Pataudi, Farukh Nagar, Manesar, Wazirabad, Badshahpur, Kadipur, Garhi Harsaru are the tehsils of the district.


 

Population

 
According to 2011 census, Gurugram district has a population of 15,14,432. Gurugram district has a sex ratio of 853 females for every 1000 males. Hindi is the main language of the district.

Economy

 
District Gurugram mainly depends on its industries. There are a large number of industries and offices in the district. Multi National Companies (MNC) are established on Manesar and Sohna Road.

 

Education

 
The literacy rate of the district is 84.7%. Ansal Institute of Technology, Indian Institute of Learning and Advanced Development, ITM University, Management Development Institute, School of Inspired Leadership, Munjal University, Kendriya Vidyalaya, American Montessori Public School, Amity International School, Aravali Public School, Blue Bells Public School, DAV Public schools are the major educational institutions of the district.

There are many historical and religious places to visit in the district. Dhankot, Sayyad, Ata, Sultanpur Lake Bird Sanctuary, Sohna Sulfur Springs and Tourist Complex, Shama Tourist Complex, Badshahpur Fort, Baoli Ghaus Ali Shah, John Hall, Kingdom of Dreams, Ala Vardi Khan's Mosque, Sheesh Mahal etc. are some of the notable places in the district. How to reach Gurugram

 
Gurugram is well connected by road to all major cities and towns, with NH-48 passing through the district. Tourists can take taxis or cabs and local buses to reach here easily. The distance between Gurugram and Delhi by road is 31 kilometers. 

 


The nearest airport around Gurugram is Delhi International Airport which is well connected to all major cities in the country and abroad. Gurugram railway station is well connected to all major cities and towns. There are many trains available at this place which help the tourists to reach their destination comfortably.
