Palwal

Palwal is the 21st district of the state of Haryana in northern India. It was created on 13 August 2008 by separating it from Faridabad and Noah districts. The district headquarters is situated in Palwal city. Palwal is a very ancient place. The importance of the district is historical as well as being the center of the cotton trade. The district is also known for a Hindu temple called "Panchvati" which is a great symbol of the region. Palwal city is also called as the city of hospitals because there are many hospitals in Palwal city. 

Dauji Mandir

Historically, the region is named after the ruler Palvasura. who was the king of the Pandavas. He was murdered by Balarama who was the elder brother of Lord Krishna. Every year, a festival called Baldev Chhath Ka Mela is celebrated on this occasion. There is also a temple dedicated to Lord Balarama. There is also a famous ashram in the district called Gandhi Ashram. It was built in memory of Mahatma Gandhi as he was arrested at the railway station here.

The district covers an area of 1,359 sq km. The district shares its boundaries with Palwal, Faridabad and Noonh districts. The district is divided into 3 sub-districts, 6 towns and 280 villages. Hindi is the official language of the district. Palwal, Hodal and Hathin are tehsils of the district.

Population

As of 2011 census, the district had a population of 10,42,7 The sex ratio in the district is 880 females for every 1000 males.

Economy

Economically, agriculture as well as industry are the major sources of income in the district. The Government is running the Golden Jubilee Gram Swaroopgar Yojana and other developmental programmes. Cotton, textiles, weaving and handloom are the main industries of the district. The district is mainly famous for the cotton trade.

Education

The literacy rate in the district is 70.32%. The district has many reputed educational institutes like DCTM Delhi College of Technology and Management, Gopal Sharma Modern Vidya Niketan Institute of Engineering and Technology, NGF College of Engineering and Technology, Applied College of Management and Engineering, AITM Advanced Institute of Technology and Management, RITM Rattan Institute of Technology and Management, etc.

Attraction

There are many famous historical and religious tourist places to visit in the district. These places are Baba Udasnath Temple, Dauji Temple, Panchavati Temple, Pandav Forest, Raja Nahar Singh Fort, Roshan Chirag Tomb, Sati Ka Talab, Saeed Sharif Dargah. The Panchavati temple is named after the Pandavas. It is believed that the Pandavas spent their days of exile in this place. Later, a temple was built here.

How to reach

The nearest airport to the district is Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi, which is 70 km from Palwal. Palwal Junction is connected to a good railway network. It is on the Delhi-Agra rail network. Palwal is on National Highway No. 2 and has excellent bus connections to all cities and towns in neighboring states.
