Sindhudurg is a district in the state of Maharashtra in India. The headquarters of the district is located in Oros city . It was carved out of Ratnagiri district on 1 May 1981 to form a new district. It comes under the Konkan Division . The district derives its name from the famous sea fort at Sindhudurg. Which was built by Shivaji Maharaj near Malwa. The word Sindhudurg means ' Sea Fort '. Sindhudurg district is the southern part of the Konkan coast which is historically famous for its long coastline and safe harbor.
