Jorhat is a district in the Indian state of Assam located in the central part of the Brahmaputra Valley. The district headquarters are located in Jorhat city. Jorhat was earlier a subdivision of the undivided Sibsagar district. In 1983, Jorhat was separated from Sibsagar district to form a new district. Jorhat is known as the cultural capital of Assam. Hojai district is a district of Assam, India. Hojai district is one of the 5 districts of Assam which was declared on 15 August 2016 by the Chief Minister of Assam. The district headquarters is located at Sankardev Nagar, which is about 8 km from Hojai town. Hojai district was formed from three tehsils of Nagaon district, Hojai, Doboka and Lanka. Hojai was part of the undivided Nagaon district of the then Assam province. On 31 December 2022, the district was temporarily merged with Nagaon district. Then on August 25, 2023, the Assam Cabinet announced to restore district status to Hojai. The word Hojai means priest in Dimasa language. Hailakandi district is a district in the state of Assam with its administrative headquarters located in the town of Hailakandi. According to some historians the name of the district comes from the 'Kuki' word 'Halam' which means a small state and the word 'Kundia' meaning a plot of land for temporary tillage. Hailakandi was declared as a sub-division of Assam on June 1, 1869. Hailakandi was then declared as a civil sub-division under Cachar district. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman may make a big announcement on tax breaks in Budget 2024-25. A Bloomberg report claims this year's budget could include an income tax exemption. The move will benefit individuals with annual income of Rs 5 lakh to Rs 15 lakh. They are currently facing a tax rate of 5 to 20 percent. The report further said that the Center is considering a new tax bracket. However, the matter is still under discussion and the final decision will be taken during the budget presentation. It also said that despite the potential revenue loss from these tax changes, the government is committed to maintaining its fiscal deficit target of 5.1% of GDP for the current fiscal.
