Maharashtra
Maharashtra is a state famous for its diverse mountains, panoramic beaches, defined by breathtaking scenery and a variety of museums, monuments and forts that witness India’s rich history. Maharashtra is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘Maha’ which means great and ‘Rashtra’ which originally came from the Rashtrakuta dynasty.

Maharashtra has an intoxicating variety – the misty mountains, which are spread far, lush green forests, historic huge forts and sacred shrines. The state consists of about 350 forts. They define the glorious history of Maratha rulers. At a distance of 120 km from Pune, Shivneri Fort is another iconic fort that is famous for being the birthplace of Shivaji.

The state is home to some beautiful hill stations wrapped in greenery and providing breathtaking views of the panoramic surroundings. Major hill stations like Lonavala, Khandala, Panchgani, Mahabaleshwar, Jawahar and Toranmal are here.
Maharashtra has many museums for history lovers. Pune’s Tribal Museum, Mumbai’s Prince of Wales Museum and Jahangir Art Gallery are some of them. The Coin Museum in Nashik is a unique museum of its kind, which reflects the history of coinage in India.
Maharashtra has many ancient beaches. You can visit the plush
beaches like Marine
Drive Chowpatty in Mumbai. Velaneswar and Shrivardhan Harihareshwar beach is
for adventure lovers who want to indulge in water sports.
Maharashtra is also a major religious center.
There are many shrines there. The famous Kumbh Mela is held every three
years in Nashik,
while Mumbadevi
Temple, one of the famous temples, is located in the city of
Mumbai. The Kailash
Temple in Aurangabad and
the holy sites of Shirdi, Pandharpur and Bahubali are
equally famous. Haji
Ali’s tomb is more than eight centuries old, while Takhat Sachkhand Sri Hazur
Abchalnagar Sahib is one of the most important gurdwaras
in the state of Nanded.
Osho Ashram in Pune is
another spiritual place where meditation and yoga courses are available. Mount Mary Church of
Mumbai is a very famous church, where the Bandra fair takes place every year,
and the crowds of devotees throng. Ajanta
and Ellora Caves, Elephanta
